Extracurricular Activities

Extracurricular activities are during the afternoon and at night. Some activities have a special fees and other are completely free. Students who participate in Yoga or Tropical dance lessons at night can use the free shuttle service offered by Veritas to safely get back to their host families homes.

Bible studies: Students with an advanced level of Spanish who wish to share with other Costa Rican Christians can participate in the bible studies group on Thursdays.

Costa Rican cooking class: This class has a $20 per month fee to cover ingredients! Students will learn how to make traditional dishes such as “arroz con leche”, “empanadas”, “gallo pinto”, etc.

Self-Defense/Martial Arts: This extracurricular class introduces basic principles of self defense and the technical basis of Tae Kwon Do. Students will train at the Diamond Gym Dojo with Sabonim Ricardo Cruz.

Scuba Open Water Certification: If you’ve always wanted to get Scuba Certified this is the time to do it! Costa Rica offers great diving sites both at the Pacific and the Caribbean. The Open Water Certification course is $535 and this includes the PADI International Open Water certification and the logistics for the certification field trip.

Spanish Conversation Club: The club meets twice a week to provide a structured place for both Costa Rican and foreign students to practice “in turns” their Spanish and English skills thru special activities.

Sports and Gym: On Mondays and Thursdays students can get together for some informal “soccer” matches or to throw some hoops at the community’s local park one block from campus. The Diamond Gym, three blocks from Veritas, also offers a special $40 monthly membership rate for students who want to work out with weights, aerobics, spinning, pilates and more.

Tropical Dance Lessons: Tuesdays and Thursdays are the nights for the fun filled tropical dance lessons. Students learn how to dance various tropical rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Soca, Swing, Regetón and others.

Yoga Classes: Also on Tuesdays and Thursday, these invigorating yet relaxing power yoga classes combine the benefits of fluid yoga movements with the relaxing and stretching asana positions. The fee for Yoga classes is $15 per month and this includes the loan of a yoga mat.
