Faculty

Our faculty members are well-qualified professors within the coursed subject they teach. All of them hold Masters and Ph.D. degrees.

Alba Vargas Gamboa, M.A.
Masters in Spanish as a Second Language. Bachelors in Spanish Philology from Universidad de Costa Rica. She has worked in the area of SSL for over 15 years and at Veritas since 2005. She co-authored three course books for Spanish for Health Professionals with Milagro Camacho.

Alexandra Monturiol, M.A.
Master in Latin American Literature, ML (Universidad de Costa Rica). Licenciatura in Filología Española (Universidad de Costa Rica). B.A. Filología Española (Universidad de Costa Rica). Currently working on her dissertation on Literature as a tool for Second Language Learning. Lecturer. Coauthor of the Digalo en Español, survival Spanish pocket book.

Carmen Pinto Murillo, M.Ed.
Masters Education with emphasis on pedagogy from Universidad Americana in Costa Rica. B.A. Spanish Philology, Universidad de Costa Rica. Teacher on French, Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica. B.A. Literature on Sciences of language with specialty on French from Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica. Has worked with SSL since 1997 and at Veritas since 2000. She is responsible for the curricular structuring of advanced language courses such as: Cultural Heritage, Advanced Conversation, Intermediate Conversation, Oral Expression Techniques, Rhetoric and Composition. She co-authored both course books for Advanced Grammar 1 and Advanced Grammar 2 with María Milagro Camacho.

Delia Crawford Sterling, M.Ed.
Master in Education with emphasis in teaching Spanish as a Second language from Universidad Americana. B.Sc (Universidad Nacional) Has been teaching Spanish as a Second Language since 1987 and has worked at Veritas since 1993. She is Co-Author with Alexandra Monturiol of the Básico II text book.

Eugenia Yglesias García, M.Ed.
B.A. in English, (Universidad de Costa Rica), MEd, (Framingham State College and International Studies Program), Associate Professor.
She is the program co-designer and first director of the IEE (Instituto de Español para Extranjeros) that later became the Center of International Programs (CPI). She has worked at the Universidad Veritas since 1993 and taught Spanish courses at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, as well as the Business Spanish Course. She has an active role in the delivery and continued assessment of the program. Author of Grammar books: Adelante 1 and 2. She has also, designed and taught seminars and workshops for the teachers’ professional development. For example: The Usage of the Internet for Language Teaching, Teacher Refresher workshops and Assessing and Planning Tests in a Spanish Language Course. She has worked in syllabi structuring for the advanced Spanish level courses such as SPN 304 Business Spanish, and the structuring of the placement test.

Ileana Arrieta , M.Sc.
Master Education Administration, Universidad de La Salle. Bach in Teaching Spanish and Licenciatura in Literature and Linguistics with emphasis on Spanish, Universidad Nacional. Currently enrolled in a second Masters program in Spanish as a Second Language, Universidad de Costa Rica. In 2000 she published the article “La educación creativa” in Difusión magazine at Universidad Veritas.

Juan José Ortega Paredes, M.A.
M.A. in Spanish as a Second Language from Universidad de Costa Rica and a second Masters in Communication from Universidad de Costa Rica. He has worked in SSL for over 10 years at Veritas. He also teaches some of the communication and composition courses in the Advertising Design Department here at Veritas.

María de Los Angeles Rodríguez, M.A.
M.A. in Latin American Language, literature and culture from University of Syracuse, New York. B.Sc. University of Costa Rica Worked as SSL instructor at University of Syracuse since 1989.

María del Milagro Camacho, M.A.
Masters in Spanish as a Second Language Bachelors in Spanish Philology from Universidad de Costa Rica She has worked in the area of SSL since 1983 and at Veritas since 2002. She co-authored both course books for Advanced Grammar 1 and Advanced Grammar 2 with Carmen Pinto.

Marlene Castillo, M.A.
Masters in Spanish as a Second Language Bachelors in Spanish Philology from Universidad de Costa Rica. She is currently working on the Básico 2 book. She has worked in the area of SSL since 1995 and at Veritas since 2001.

Ronulfo Morera, Lic. Masters in Progress
Licenciatura in Spanish Philology from Universidad de Costa Rica. Currently completing a Masters in Linguistics at the same University. He has worked as professor in Spanish as a Second Language since 1991 at Universidad Veritas. He also works as a research professor in the Academic Aptitude Exam at Universidad de Costa Rica. He recently published in the United States a book of poetry titled “Wings in my dreams”.

Roxana Arias, Lic. Masters in Progress
Licenciatura and Bachelors degrees in Spanish Philology from Universidad de Costa Rica. Currently completing a Masters in Spanish as a Second Language at UCR. Thesis in progress. Linguistics at the same University.

Silvia Montero, M.A.
Masters in Spanish as a Second Language from Universidad de Costa Rica. Masters in Business Administration from Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco Mexico. Bachelors in Modern Languages Universidad de Costa Rica.

Silvana Marranghello, M.A.
Currently working in her Thesis for her Masters degree in Spanish as a Second Language at Universidad de Costa Rica. She obtained both her Licenciatura degree in Spanish philology and her Bachelors in Spanish Philology from the Universidad de Costa Rica.

Soledad Urbina, M.L.
Master in Linguistics with emphasis on apply linguistics, Universidad de Costa Rica; Licenciatura in Spanish philology (Universidad de Costa Rica). B.A. in Spanish philology (Universidad de Costa Rica). Co-author of the Intermediate I text book, used in the International Programs Center.

Tatiana Murillo Vela, MSc
Masters in Clinical Psychology, Universidad Iberoamericana, UNIBE, San Jose Costa Rica. Bachelor in Psychology, Universidad Autónoma Monterrey, San José, Costa Rica. Also completed several semesters of Studies in the Education Licenciatura at Universidad Estatal a Distancia, UNED, Costa Rica. She is currently pursuing a Licenciatura degree in Education with Emphasis on teaching English as a Second Language at Universidad Americana, UAM, San José, Costa Rica. She has 10 years experience in the field of teaching Spanish as a Second language. She worked in the Spanish Institute of “La Gran Comisión”, the Forester International Institute and as private tutor for children, adolescents and adults. She has also worked at the university level for Center of International Programs at Universidad Veritas San José, Costa Rica and as a language and culture instructor for the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.
