Course Description:
This program is proposed for students beginning bachelor level, like freshman and sophomore years for engineering degrees.
The purpose is to provide the students with a view of the amazing field of Space Industry as well as the relationship with new renewable energy technologies, therefore helping them make a decision to study related careers.
Program Objectives:
I. To learn about the beginnings of the electric propulsion systems and the changes from electrothermal to electromagnetic.
II. To understand the basics of Electromagnetic plasma thrusters.
III. To understand the basics of plasma-based propulsion system.
Course Topics:
1. Introduction to Space Industry environment for business, Electric Space Propulsion and Basic principles of planetary motion like Newton and Kepler´s Laws. Trends for space technologies to be apply to energy eciency and sustainable development.
2. Introduction to High Vacuum Environment
3. Introduction to heat transfer in atmospheric pressure versus vacuum (conductivity, thermal radiation, convection).
4. Introduction to welding, machining and materials for space applications.
5. Introduction to electric and magnetic technologies, superconductors and cryogenics.
6. Introduction to most used software tools for space Research and Develoment (RD)
7. Technical Spanish will be part of every experiment; all instructions will be given in English.
